Hangin' At The Coffee Shop

Dragonflies!

Amya went to a friend's house and painted these dragonflies with glittery watercolor paints. She had a blast! You can find lots of stuff to paint (and the paints) at www.discountschoolsupply.com
I think we are going to have to buy some more! Wouldn't they make a great mobile?
When I taught preschool, I used to order from Discount. They have really good prices and great ideas for arts, crafts and educational toys for kids.

Nels...At Six Months

This crazy kid had his 6 month well check up yesterday. He is average for his weight (in the 50th percentile to be exact!), but tall for his age...in the 90th percentile for height.

He has two little bottom teeth, which is very entertaining for him because he is always sucking them. He started crawling, so all of Amya's tiney toys have found thier way to the surface!

His favorite person is still his big sister. When she laughs at him, he responds with a deep belly laugh that almost sounds like a cry. Then he screams with excitment! It is a fun game in the grocery store and library

He went to storytime at the library this week for the first time and loved it! He loved the other babies and even climbed into another mom's lap to get to one.

Camping

We went camping this weekend. While there Nelson started crawling and cut his first tooth. Good times!
He also got to go fishing with Daddy!...

...and take his naps in nature (kind of).

Cute Family Picture

We went to Dan's company's summer picnic yesterday. They hired a photographer to take family pictures, and who do you think it was?....Michael Peterson photography!
Michael took this picture of us and I love it!...so I posted it.

This Poor Kid...

...has had a rough week and a half! A bad cold, breathing treatments, an ear infection, and a sting on the eye!

But she has tried to be happy even though she feels like crud. We love her.

Green And Brown

Outdoor stuff....

Hockey, getting some shade on a sunny day.

Dan and Amya tending to the gardens

I've often said it is greener in January here than July. With our water shortage lasting another year, we aren't aloud to water the grass, only gardens.
Dan has a green thumb and Amya is doing her best to be like him. I have a brown thumb, so I hope she doesn't turn out like me.

Here is a perfect example.
See the beautiful hops growing up and over the pergola? Dan
See the dead plant in the hanging basket? Carol

FOOD!!!

Nelson gets food! Well, I don't know if he "gets" it. He kind of looks at it and me like it is the most preposterous thing in the world to eat something other than milk! But we're giving it to him anyway! (and he is sleeping better at night...coincidence?)

He was getting rather bored after the novelty wore off. Then Lewis came along...

...and he was so distracted with the cat, I was able to sneak in several more bites!

When it's all said and done, I pour water in his little tray and let him play with the washcloth and splash the water. He likes this part much better than the eating part!

So far......

Blueberries: the "disgusted face" never goes away

Pears: much better than blueberries

Sweet Potatoes: come back out as soon as the spoon puts them in

Carrots: um um give me some! the entire jar is gone in minutes

A Day At The Beach

It was hot hot last weekend, so we cooled off in the water. Amya had a load of friends to play with.

...And Then There Were Two...

Hockey, Dockey and George the firsts got eaten by the neighbor's dog. Then we got Hockey, Dockey and George the seconds, plus Mocha and, oh I can't remember the fifth one's name. She didn't last long and neither did Mocha. They both met with an ill fate from the neighbor's dog as well.
But Hockey II, Dockey II and George II grew into beautiful chickens! They pranced around the yard, strutting and pooping everywhere. Happy chickens!....or so we thought. When we got back from vacation we realised that George II, well George II really is a "George"! She was a he all along. So, George II went to go live on a chicken farm in Goldendale to help make lots of baby chicks.
Now we have Hockey II and Dockey II. And they ARE happy chickens.
